Carbon & Energy Management

Identifying your carbon impact and reducing carbon dependency

‘Carbon is the new currency’

This one-day Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) accredited course will provide information and guidance on how to identify your carbon dependency but also how to monitor and manage it.

All businesses regardless of size or sector use energy within everyday processes. Historically, energy costs have been taken for granted, but now they are rising fast and the carbon emissions they cause are contributing to climate change. At the same time, with the increased focus on carbon impacts, it is important to be able to understand where carbon is embedded in your business, ranging from energy and fuel consumption to waste to even material and water use.

You will learn:
  • The drivers and benefits of implementing carbon management measures
  • How to identify your business carbon emissions and measure the overall footprint
  • Carbon sources:
      energy, waste, materials, water, transport...
  • Carbon management measures:
      carbon trading, carbon offsetting, CCR...
  • Carbon and energy monitoring:
      KPIs and process/equipment monitoring
  • Suggestions on how to reduce your business carbon emissions and sources of information, grants and further best practice guidance
Target audience:

Energy is taken for granted as a prerequisite of doing almost anything and has been assumed to be the source of a business’ carbon emissions. While a big focus is on energy management due in no small part to the significant rise in energy and fuel prices carbon emissions arise from a range of operations. Everybody is involved. However, this course is aimed at those in the organisation given particular responsibility for energy and carbon management and feeding that into the environmental policy and performance of the organisation. Energy and material costs are rising fast and becoming an important variable in the budgeting of activity. Taking an informed approach will enable better management of risks in both energy supply and resource management and will identify cost savings and future proofing measures that will inform future energy and carbon strategy.
It is aimed at manager or director level.
