Train to Gain is run by the UK Government as a national skills service, through the Learning and Skills Council.
Their role is to provide an impartial service supporting employers to improve the skills of their employees as a route to improving their business performance.
Train to Gain

What is the aim of the Leadership and Management Programme?

The Train to Gain Leadership and Management programme aims to provide small business
owner managers and company directors in the South East region, with up to £1000 of funding to help
develop business leadership skills. As part of the application process, Train to Gain will provide
you with a complimentary tailored Personal Development Plan. This is a new programme - funding is available from now and is likely to last for 6 months.

What is the funding?

Funding of up to £1000 (excluding VAT) is available for training courses that develop business leadership:

  • The first £500 is intended for the training of managing directors, owner managers and company directors and does not need to be matched – it is a direct grant.

  • The next £500 must be matched by the company, and is available to the whole staff base provided
a member of the management team participates in the training. In this case the business will pay
the full £1000 and reclaim £500 from Train to Gain. Therefore £1500 of training is available for £500. Both elements of training must be taken up to be eligible for the funding.
  • Who is eligible?

You must be a business with 10 to 250 employees and based in the South East region to qualify for funding. The training must include members of the management team to demonstrate business leadership.

    What other conditions apply?

A LSC assessor will confirm each company's training course requirements and choices. The training must have started and the grant claimed within 90 days of the grant being approved.
